Grandparents Circle

At Bialik, our grandparents are the heart and memory of our community, the storytellers, the nurturers, and the living link between generations. They are the caretakers of tradition and the champions of our students’ growth, offering a depth of love, pride and perspective that enriches every corner of the College.

We warmly invite all grandparents to join the Bialik Grandparents’ Circle, a welcoming community that stays connected through events, updates and opportunities to support meaningful initiatives across the College. Register your interest today!

As I reflect on nearly 50 years of connection to Bialik, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been part of the journey of this remarkable school. When our children first started at little Shakespeare Grove, its oval was no bigger than a tennis court. I often found myself wondering about all the impressive facilities at other schools. I questioned "Have we made the right decision? But the answer time and time again was yes, because what truly mattered wasn't the bricks a mortar the care nurturing and the deep sense of belonging that we felt from day one.  Even as the school grew it never lost its heart, like any institution there were ups and downs. Thanks to the commitment of the council members led by Jeffrey Bialik has become one of Melbourne’s leading schools.

My family and I are so very proud to be part of that legacy. I still love picking up my grandchildren and seeing all the happy faces. It often feels as though no time has passed at all - as if I am picking up my children once more. As both our parents picked up our children - that’s four generations of connections, not bad for past war immigrants who come with nothing.   Today more than ever we understand how vital it is to have a school like Bialik in our community. We must be proud jews and have had the privilege to be part of it - as students and as part of the teaching body. The children are nurtured not just as students but as Jewish leaders.

In a world where antisemitism is again on the rise Bialik gives our young people something invaluable - the pride strength and knowledge to face the world with confidence and resilience to be future Jewish leaders, thinkers and educators. It is with these values that helps them understand who they are now to stand tall in the face of adversity.

As I look back, I do so with gratitude and as I look forward – I do so with hope that Bialik will continue to grow to be part of a beacon for future generations.
